Jean Petitot Enamels 1607-1691. Paris, c. 1864. Comprises a frontispiece with portrait of Petitot, manuscript title-page with portrait of Mlle. Dupre and 48 further plates, variously interleaved and with tissue guards. The 50 plates are hand-colored engravings, printed on chine and mounted to card leaves, proof copies of the plates used in the 1862-1864 catalogue of Petitot's miniatures at the Louvre Museum. 4to (304 x 202 mm). Full red morocco gilt extra by The French Binders, Garden City, New York, with full morocco doublures and moire silk endleaves, all edges gilt; full pink calf gilt clamshell box. Three small spots to upper cover, light rubbing to joints; box with a few light scuffs. Unique copy. A first printing of 100 sets of these engravings by Luigi Ceroni after Petitot were made on chine and on papier blanc (presumably the minority were made on chine). In this copy the names of the subjects are identified in pencil at the foot of each page. See Vicaire III, p 570-1. See illustration.
