JAMES WILKINSON & SON, LONDON AN EXTREMELY RARE CASED PERCUSSION CANNON IGNITER, MODEL 'WILKINSON'S PATENT', serial no. 54, and built to his patent published in 1854, with approximately 20 1/2in. brass barrel, the muzzle cranked to approximately 70 degrees, bayonet catch locking breech, simplistic under-hammer percussion lock (built to the same pattern as that submitted by Wilkinson for the 1837 Musket Trials), plain walnut half-stock with bag-shaped grip and flat brass fore-end cap, together with a period walnut storage case relined and possibly re-fitted for this apparatus and including a snipper and brush combination tool, a leather flask, a tin flask, a cleaning rod, a tin of modern caps, an Enfield 'Y' tool, a length of cord fuse and a turn-screw, reproduction Wilkinson label inside lid and brass circular flush handle and escutcheon to the outside of lid
