James Upjohn, Brentford, a small mahogany wall clock the eight-day duration single-fusee timepiece movement having an anchor escapement, the eight-inch round painted dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands and signed James Upjohn, Brentford, the mahogany case with brass inlaid decoration to the trunk, height 29cm *Biography James Upjohn was a well-known member of the Upjohn clockmaking family who were primarily based in both Exeter and London.The London Gazette of 22nd of November 1842 published a notice proclaiming the dissolving of the partnership in Brentford in the county of Middlesex, between the watchmakers James Upjohn the elder and James Upjohn the younger where all debts accrued were to be paid by the elder Upjohn. Elizabeth Upjohn, widow of the clockmaker William Upjohn, latterly of Exeter, has her death recorded in May 1841 at a house in Brentford.
