JAMES, HENRY Autograph letter signed, addressed to Violet Hunt . Written in black ink on Reform Club folding notepaper, dated May 1st, 1903. The note has been separated at the fold, and is presented framed in a three-window mat, with James's portrait in the center window. Two sheets, 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches (19 x 12 cm). Eighteen short lines, plus salutation and felicitation. James offers tickets to an entertainment the following day, and arranges to meet Hunt beforehand. Minimally lightstruck, overall very attractive. The recipient, the novelist Violet Hunt (herself the subject of several biographies), had long-standing friendships with James, H. G. Wells, Somerset Maugham, and Ford Madox Ford (with whom she lived for ten years). Provenance: Selma Lanes author of (The Art of Maurice Sendak etc.)
