James Fraser Aged 67, engraved portrait by William Poole after Robert Dighton trimmed to outside borderline at sides, pinhole in top border, slight spotting and a few rubbed spots, 400 x 305mm., [1807]. *** Master bookbinder James Fraser (1740 - after 1813) of St Martin’s Lane holds a paper headed, “A Plan for reconciling the difference between the Masters and Journeymen Bookbinders.” This recalls his role as one of three “Prosecuting Masters” in the 1786 trade dispute which resulted in the imprisonment of five journeymen bookbinders for combining in an attempt to reduce their working day from 14 to 13 hours.
