First state (date 1691) the newly engraved for the Atlas Nouveau of 1691. Double-hemisphere world map, showing the latest discoveries, dedicated to the Dauphin who never became king (Louis died before his father and his son became king Louis XV), elaborate title and imprint cartouches. North America is divided to show the various continental powers that looked to control the continent, showing California as an island. Shirley 462.
