Jackson Lee Nesbitt (American, b. 1913) Sheet and Plate Mill, 1938, edition of 60. Signed and dated "-Jackson Lee Nesbitt '38" in pencil l.r., titled in pencil l.l., numbered "34/60" in pencil l.c., identified on a fragmentary label affixed to the reverse. Etching on paper, plate size 9 x 11 7/8 in. (22.9 x 30.2 cm), framed. Condition: Laid down, margins approximately 1 1/4 inches, mat burn, unobtrusive toning. N.B. Born in Oklahoma in 1913, Nesbitt grew up helping with his father's printing business until he attended the University of Oklahoma in 1932. Nesbitt later studied at the Kansas City Art Institute where he established himself as a printmaker. In 1937 the Sheffield Steel Corporation commissioned a series of etchings depicting the industry. Some of Nesbitt's work from this commission was featured in the 1939 New York World's Fair. The work presented here is part of that series.
