IWC A wristwatch of 18k gold. Model Da Vinci Tourbillon, ref. 3752. Mechanical chronograph movement with tourbillon and perpetual calendar, cal. 7606. White dial with gold hour markers and hands. IWC bracelet of 18k gold with folding clasp. Circumference app. 20.5 cm. Watch diameter 39 mm. 2000s. Accompanied by box, manuals, two additional links, IWC alligator strap with C-type buckle of 18k gold and an IWC polishing cloth. There are different levels of how complicated a watch can be. For instance, a date is a complication, a chronograph is a complication and the combination of the two in a single watch makes it that much more complicated. This particular timepiece tells us the time, the day, date, month, and year. It corrects itself on odd months and leap years, it has a chronograph and a hacking seconds function, allowing you to set the watch to the second. Perhaps even more interesting, however, is the addition of a tourbillon. This does however not mean, that it has to be a complex affair to wear the watch. The Da Vinci from IWC was the first perpetual calendar wristwatch in the world to offer a winding crown, that can change the time, day, date, and year. Hence, no additional tools are required for the setting of the calendar. This IWC is one of just 200 pieces ever made in gold. Not only is the dial of the watch both simple and complicated at the same time, but the movement finishing is quite striking as well. The Geneva stripes on the brass bridges are unusual, as they are made in a circular pattern. The most stunning sight on the movement side of the watch, however, is the tourbillon that makes a full rotation once per minute. This complication was invented by Breguet in Paris more than 200 years ago to counteract the influences of gravity and the uneven wear to the components of pocket watches. Whether it is a true improvement to a wristwatch or merely a romantic feature is often debated. The beauty and craftsmanship can however not be debated when being presented to this rare complication. The Da Vinci is attractively sized at 39 mm making it fit most wrists. The watch comes on the original 18k gold IWC bracelet but could just as easily be worn on the beautiful brown alligator strap, which accompanies this remarkable timepiece.
