Beschreibung:

Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818-1883) Organising a hunting trip. n.d. Autograph letter signed ('Iv. Turgenev') to Prince [Nikolay Ivanovich] Trubetskoy, n.p., n.d. [?c.1860]. In Russian. One page, 222 x 140mm, on paper with embossed initials 'IT' and bird emblem. Organising a hunting trip. Turgenev writes to his close friend Prince Trubetskoy to arrange the time and date for a hunting expedition. Turgenev was a passionate hunter from boyhood: the pursuit was his principal pastime in the 1840s and 1850s, and inspired the collection Sketches from a Hunter's Album (1852). He is known to have continued to hunt even after his departure from Russia, sometimes alongside Louis Viardot. Prince Nikolay Trubetskoy (1807-1874) lived at the Château de Bellefontaine, near Fontainebleau, with his wife Princess Anna Andreyevna Trubetskoy (née Gudovich, 1818-1892), a friend and confidante of Turgenev's: the writer was also close to the couple's daughter Yekatarina and her husband, Prince Nikolay Orlov.
