Dala'il al-Khayrat [Signs of Blessings], prayerbook in Arabic, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Kashmir], dated AH 1220 1805-6 AD 172 x 104mm, text panel 120 x 72mm. iii + 95 + vi leaves, each page with two blocks of five lines of black naskh in clouds reserved against a gold ground, alternated with larger lines of black naskh on panels of gold ground, the whole within illuminated floral borders, important words picked out in red, text blocks outlined in gold and polychrome, outer margins with double black rule, catchwords, occasional marginal notes, EIGHT DOUBLE-PAGE OPENINGS with gold and polychrome floral illumination surrounding the text, and two full-page miniatures, of Mecca and Medina, in gouache heightened with gold, text followed by later owner's commentary in nasta'liq , large red owner's stamp on verso of opening leaf (occasional small losses of pigment, smudges or show-through, a few minor marginal repairs). Original lacquer binding with floral decoration, later red morocco and card slip case (extremities rubbed, some crackelure, small loss to lower corner of doublure, slipcase worn).
