IRON AGE DANUBIAN CELTIC FIGURAL PLAQUE Circa 1st century BC-1st century AD A Danubian cast lead rectangular plaque with scrolled upper edge, depicting figural designs in three bands within a heavy ropework border; in the pediment a fish facing right; in the upper band two serpentine creatures flanked by human busts with one raised arm; in the central band, two mounted warriors advancing towards the centre, brandishing weapons; in the lower band an amphora, a cockerel and a geometric motif. Lead, 90 grams, 92 mm (3 1/2"). Very fine condition. [No Reserve] Provenance From an old Suffolk collection formed in the 1990's.
