IRELAND, Samuel. (1744 –1800). Miscellaneous Papers and Legal Instruments Under the Hand and Seal. London: Cooper and Graham, 1796. Folio. 6 plates within the text, 17 full page plates, 2 full plates in colour. (new endpapers, with original endpaper tipped in, occasional spotting and marks). Later half calf with marbled boards (minor bumping to corners). Provenance: Samuel Ireland's copy with his book plate to the tipped in endpaper and also the book plate of Thomas Onesiphorus Tyndall. An old inscription in pencil to the tipped in endpaper reads: " Samuel Ireland's own copy with his pretty armorial bookplate. When his son's frauds were exposed [,] all the available copies of this folio were destroyed, and, a century ago, only 138 copies were known to exist. Most of them have since disappeared [See Shakespeare Bib - under Ireland. This special copy is one of very few printed on the best handmade paper and any copy of the book uncut".
