2.5 x 4.5" black ruled printed invitation from the office of the Sheriff of Santa Barbara County, Jan. 21, 1891 for the hanging of Ramon E. Lopez, to take place on the 26th of January, signed by Sheriff J. L. Broughton. Accompanied by a series of newspaper clippings from January 1891 issues of the Daily Independent, Santa Barbara, detailing the crime for which Lopez was hung. Lopez had killed a local seamstress in cold blood, shooting her twice in a jealous rage; he then fired upon a Deputy Marshall, missing three times before he was apprehended.
