A P1895 Infantry Officer's Sword by Wilkinson numbered 32634 on spine. Plated steel scroll honeysuckle guard with wire-bound fishskin grip. Sword is 38 1/2" oa length with 32" straight blade having owner's name "G.W. Poynder" in banner at forte incorporating Victoria Cypher, royal coat of arms and stylized owner's initials. Complete with original leather field service scabbard. Previous unsourced research has Geoffry William Poynder as Lieutenant in the Queen's Regiment (Royal West Surrey). Hart's Army List for 1908 confirms "G.W. Poynder" indexed in the active list on p.227 corresponding to Queen's Regt., however, inexplicably, he is not shown on that page. Condition: Black fishskin grip with light wear; silver wire complete. Dumbell shaped blade shows minor discoloration near tip, otherwise without nicks or damage. Leather scabbard and frog both excellent.
