Listing of books banned by Pope Gregory XVI, as the Catholic Church believed they were a danger to the faith of its members, as the works were considered either immoral or contained theological errors. Nearly every two or three months the Papal authority added new publications to the list. The list was begun by Pope Paul IV in 1559 and abolished by Pope Paul VI in 1966. Though the publication date of this volume is 1841, it contains additions through 1852.
