Rarissima edizione, priva di indicazione della data di stampa, pubblicata a Bassano del Grappa dalla celebre tipografia della famiglia Remondini. La lista delle condanne librarie è preceduta, secondo il modello in uso fin dalla fine del Cinquecento, dalle bolle emanate dai pontefici Pio IV e Clemente VIII, nonché dalle regole stabilite dai padri conciliari per la proibizione e l'espurgazione dei libri, edite per la prima volta a corredo dell'Indice Tridentino del 1564. 8° (161x102 mm). Small ink stains to the title-page; waterstaining and spotting, more prominento to the last quires; the outer lower corner of the last leaf restored, with loss of a few letters. Modern one half-vellum, boards covered with decorated paper. Smooth spine, pastedowns and flyleaves renewed. A few stains to the covers, corners slightly worn. 18th-century ownership inscription and pen trails on the verso of the title-page, 'Francesco da mano da mè'. An undated, and very rare 18th-century edition of the Roman Index librorum prohibitorum, published by the famous printing press run by Remondini family of Bassano del Grappa. As usual, the list of prohibitions is introduced by the bulls issued by Pius IV and Clemens VIII in 1564 and 1595 respectively, and the rules established by the Council fathers of Trent in matter of prohibition and expurgation, first published in 1564. The Bassanese publishers had close relations to ecclesiastical authority, and the press was frequently used "as a weapon in the defence of orthodoxy" (P. Delpiano, Church and Censorship in Eighteenth-Century Italy, London 2018).
