Gunther Bohrer Idar-Oberstein, Germany Sodalite is a scarce mineral and particularly difficult to find in the large size of the rough used to carve this fine bowl of impressive proportions. Its name is due to its sodium content. Typically used in carving and occasionally in jewelry, the color ranges from light to dark pure blue color, the darker the better. Bowl making is an art form that has been mastered by very few lapidary artists, but it is an art at which the reknowned firm of Gunther Bohrer excels. This bowl of deep blue color with calcite veining would have been a particularly difficult and unwieldy project due to its large size but the result is outstanding. Measures 13 1/2 x 9 x 10 in
