Volume I contains details of the following Passes: The Little St. Bernard; The Mont Genevre, The Mont Cenis, The Mont St. Gothard, The Great St. Bernard and The Stelvio. Volume II contains details of the following Passes: The Cornice, The Grimsel and the Gries, The Bernardin and The Splugen, The Brenner, The Tendre and The Argentiere and The Simplon. Each section contains a description of the routes, 8 engraved plates including title and end vignettes, and map. The Simplon section in volume II also includes a General Map of the Great Chain of the Alps. The majority of engravings are by Edward Finden from drawings by the author. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear to binding and gilt edges; light toning to interior, all plates and maps present, with occasional bit of finger soiling or spotting to margins not affecting illustrations, a solid and handsome copy; very good.
