Spielmann, M.H. HENRIETTE RONNER THE PAINTER OF CAT LIFE AND CAT CHARACTER. London, Paris, Melbourne: Cassell & Company, Limited, 1891. First Edition. 15 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches in beige textured cloth binding with beveled boards and a 6 by 7 1/2 inch illustration of a kitty inset to the upper cover. Complete with a portrait frontis (Ms. Ronner) plus 12 photogravure plates by Goupil and Company of Paris. "Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (31 May 1821, Amsterdam – 28 February 1909, Ixelles) was a Dutch-Belgian artist in the Romantic style who is best known for her animal paintings; especially cats." (Wiki) The illustrations in this volume are perfectly described as "romantic," and include wonderful, playful details. Condition: Joints rubbed; modest fraying at head and tail of spine; bit of soiling to covers; binding solid and sound. While there is foxing, at times heavy, to the tissue overlays and in the margins of the illustrations - the actual gravure images are just about entirely free of foxing.
