Vol II p. 315 with lower corner torn away with loss of text, this leaf provided in photo-facsimile but the volume is complete, both vols. with foxing, scattered dampstaining, small tears, a few small repairs, infrequent pencil or ink notations, intermittent stamps, sold with all faults; Together with two later works of Illinois law being the Revised Code of Laws of Illinois. Vandalia: 1827. Early boards, custom box; Incorporation Laws of the State of Illinois. Vandalia: 1836. Black cloth. These early laws of the Illinois Territory were written by the Kentucky born lawyer and politician Nathaniel Pope who had practiced law in the Louisiana Territory. Pope moved to Kaskaskia in 1809 and was appointed Secretary of the Illinois Territory by President Madison. These early Illinois imprints are extremely scarce with no copies in the auction record.
