LAFERTÈ - I riti nuziali degli antichi romani per le nozze di S.E. Don Giovanni Lambertini con S.E. Donna Lucrezia Savorgnan. Bologna: Lelio dalla Volpe, 1762. An attractive festival book in a presentation binding by Luigi Lafertè. This book documents the wedding of Lucrezia Savorgnan to Giovanni Lambertini, the great-nephew of Pope Benedict XIV. The engraved vignettes depict scenes from daily life in antiquity—fitting for the nephew of a Pope devoted to ancient learning. Cicognara 1780. Folio (379 x 244mm). Frontispiece engraving by Vittorio Bigheri, engraved portrait of the royal couple by Flaminius Minozzi, engraved head- and tail-pieces depicting ancient artworks and daily life. Contemporary red morocco by Lafertè with his tag, gilt-stamped with royal arms (caps lacking, hinges tender with upper joint starting, corners showing). Provenance: Leo Olschki tag laid in, likely sold to: – Edward Ten Broeck Perine (1870-1941, NY Comptroller and founder of Peoples National Bank of New Jersey; by descent to current owner).
