HUYGENS, Christian (1629-1695). Opera Varia . Leiden: Jansson-Van der Aa, 1724. With: Opera Reliqua. Bound with: Opuscula Posthuma. Amsterdam: Jansson-Waesberghe, 1728. 3 works in 8 parts in 2 volumes, 4° (250 x 195mm.). Titles in red and black. Engraved portrait of the author, 114 folding plates (i.e. 56; 15 and 43 in respective works). (Some browning and spotting.) Uniform contemporary blind-stamped vellum (somewhat soiled). A selection edited by G. J.'sGravesande from the work of one of the greatest mathematicians of his time, and inventor of the pendulum clock. The Opera Varia comprise Opera Mechanica; ...Geometrica; ...Asronomica; ...Miscellanea. Both of the other works are in two parts. The publication of the comprehensive edition of his works in 22 volumes was not completed until 1950. (2)
