(10 7/8 x 6 3/4 in.), seventeenth-century mottled calf gilt, covers with saw-tooth roll border and acorn corner ornaments, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, uppermost compartment gilt stamped "E.G.C. 1656", "Homer's Iliads" stamped below, four repetitions of a small gilt tool in the four lower compartments, lower cover with small dampstain to upper inner margin at front of volume, fore-edge of engraved title and memorial engraving cropped. Collected edition comprising Harper's reprint of the Iliad (distinguished by "Homer's" in recto headlines), the Odyssey with the cancelland A5r (beginning "Poet.") and The Crowne ; engraved pictorial general title with engraved medallion portrait of Chapman on verso (portrait not always present), engraved memorial to Henry Prince of Wales, Errata leaf to the Iliad , bound up without the engraved title to each of the three parts as is usual with a collected edition.
