Thomas Grenville (1755-1846), politician and book collector, bequeathed some 20,000 volumes to the British Museum, among the most valuable of which were his editions of Homer. According to Dibdin, the three Grenville brothers, the marquis of Buckingham, baron Grenville, and Thomas Grenville, bore the cost of this publication.
