Collation: s6 a-p 1 0 q-s 8 ( blank, r introduction and table to Part I, v Part I); v 4 (table to Part II); A-Z 1 0 (A1r Part II, Z9v colophon and device, Z10 blank). 412 leaves (of 414, without the blanks). Foliated in lower right margins. 57 lines. Types 5:111R; 111Gk (occasional words). Torresanus' woodcut device D printed in red at end. 3- to 11-line initial spaces with printed guide letters. (First leaf repaired along gutter and with excised inscription in lower margin, repairs to upper margins of fols. -4, dampstaining to gutters and upper margins of Part II, more severe toward end, a few small marginal tears or repairs, minor worming in first quire of Part I and last 40 leaves in Part II.) 20th-century vellum-backed boards. Provenance : partly effaced 18th-century inscription on first page, a few 18th-century marginalia (cropped) -- excised inscription and deleted inkstamp on first page. The letters of St. Jerome were greatly prized by humanist readers. 21 pre-1501 editions are recorded, and dozens more appeared in the following century.
