Herman Pfister (1847-1911) was born in Switzerland and, by 1870, he was manufacturing surveying and engineering instruments in Cincinnati, Ohio. This particular Herm Pfister transit includes 5" needle with clamp and tangent to telescope axis. Telescope measures approx. 11" long and includes brass cap and level. Transit with wooden base measures approx. 13" tall. Etched in faceplate of surveying transit is Herm Pfister Cincinnati. Tripod measures approx 32" tall and 59" when fully extended. The transit is housed in a latching wooden box with leather carrying strap, measuring 10.25" x 10.5" x 15.5" in volume. Lot also includes 12 catalogs, records, and imprints related to surveying. Includes 7 books of handwritten surveying records and notes with dates ranging from 1873 to 1909. Also includes 1909 Gurley's Manual of the Principal Instruments Used in American Engineering and Surveying, 43rd Edition, and four surveying catalogs from the early 1900s. Condition: The survey records show signs of use, otherwise all in very good condition.
