HERALDRY]. -- Illustrated armorial manuscript. [Germany or Bohemia, 18th century]. 2 volumes (197 x 170 mm. [vol. I], 204 x 163 mm. [vol. II]). 230 leaves containing 825 drawings of mostly German coats-of-arms, in pen-and-ink, gray wash and watercolor. Contents: volume "I": 72 numbered leaves containing 259 coats-of arms, of which 9 full-page; volume "II": 158 numbered leaves containing 566 coats-of-arms, of which 33 full-page, one a composite shield of 27 different arms, the arms arranged alphabetically by family within each volume, all the arms identified in a neat contemporary hand. The first(?) volume interleaved, with manuscript notes on most of the interleaves. (Occasional light foxing, marginal soiling.) 19th-century half vellum. As well as a large number of German noble families, the volumes contain the arms of the principal European royal and princely houses, including England, France, Spain, Sicily, Sardinia, Russia, Turkey, Romania, Venice, Mantua, and Parma. Although the first volume ranges from A through W and the other volume from B through R, there appears to be no duplication. The fine drawings as well as the captions appear to be by the same artist; the captions of the two volumes are in different hands, and the foliation in vol. II was added later. (2)
