HENSCHKE Henschke is a small to medium sized family owned winery in South Australia's Eden Valley. Established in 1858 they have over the years built up a reputation that is the envy of many. A fine producer of both red and white wines, the husband and wife team of Stephen (wine-maker) and Prue (viticulturalist) Henschke currently churn out some of the world's finest wines. Featured here are their two top single vineyard Shiraz, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone. Hill of Grace commenced production in 1958, the vineyard itself dating back well into the nineteenth century, Mount Edelstone dating from around 1900 is a fine match and younger brother. Together they showcase what old, untouched and untampered Shiraz vines can produce. They are fabulous expressions of terroir and when handled to perfection, both in the vineyard and the winery, as they are at Henschke, there can be no finer example of single vineyard Shiraz any where in Australia, if not the world. Production is small, and highly allocated, what is on offer here is definitely something not to be missed. Fine verticals feature as well as true greats such as the 1986, 1990 and 1991 Hill of Grace together with more recent classics like the 1998 Mount Edelstone. HILL OF GRACE Henschke, Hill of Grace Eden Valley --Vintage 1979 (1) --Vintage 1983 (1) --Vintage 1994 (1) All levels bottom neck or better Above 3 bottles per lot
