Il envoie le portrait de son correspondant en visite, pour six semaines, durée des vacances universitaires qui commencent : « I send you, on a visit only, and have given it permission to pass six weeks with you, that being the length of the College vacation which is just beginning ». Il part dans quelques jours pour Nahant, où il recevra son correspondant s’il vient à Boston pendant l’été. Ils seront très heureux de le voir ; et comme il y a un vapeur quatre fois par jour, et des trains à Lynn, il ne trouvera le voyage ni long ni ennuyeux : « as there is a steamer, four times a day, and train to Linn, without number, you will not find the journey long nor tedious »…
