Letter signed with autograph subscription ('V[ot]re bon fr[er]e et Cousin Henry R') to the Dowager Queen of Hungary and Regent of the Low Countries (Maria of Austria), Westminster Palace, 30 June 1544, in French, signed by the King at the foot, and by his French secretary, Sir John Mason ('Jo. Masson') in lower right corner, 10 lines in brown ink in a neat secretary hand, one page, 308 x 410 mm , address panel, papered seal (2 small punctures for original string seal, very slight wear in folds, slightly browned). A diplomatic letter conveying formal greetings and commending the bearer, Edward Hervey, as the King's new ambassador, to take the place of Mr Layton, lately deceased. The Regent of the Low Countries in 1544 was Maria of Austria, widow of Ladislas II of Poland and Hungary, and sister of the emperor, Charles V.
