N.p., n.d.; [Yemenite, c. 1870], 204 leaves, black ink on paper, 333 x 225 mm., the work also contains Isaac Luria's Tikkunei Shabbat, copied from an edition seen through the press by Judah ben David Ashkenazi of 'Bodon', of which the signed introduction appears in the manuscript, in a nice semi-cursive hand of the 19th century with square captions, both infra- and supra-linear vocalization, some simple calligrams and a chronological table on fol. 179rv starting in the year 5629 (1868/69), giving a clue as to the dating of the manuscript, on fol. 185ff versions of the ketubbah, the get and other deeds, generally good condition, modern morocco spine gilt. -- HEBREW MANUSCRIPT - Pentateuch with Targum Onkelos, with Saadiah Gaon's Arabic translation/commentary Tafsir in alternating verses, and with Rashi's commentary, also including the Haftarat Simchat Torah. N.p.; [Yemenite], copied by Shalom ben Abraham al-Arsi (?) for Suleiman ben Yihyeh al-Arusi (?), finished on 24 December 1847. 2 vols., vol. 1: Genesis, Exodus, vol. 2: Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, black ink on paper, 331 x 226 mm., in a semi-cursive Yemenite hand, with a dedication page mentioning the names of the scribe and the patron at the beginning of vol. 2, and a colophon following the Haftarat Simchat Torah at the end of vol. 2 indicating the date of completion (Friday, 17 Tevet 2158 according to the Seleucid era) and followed by an undeciphered autogram seal, generally good condition, recently rebound. Saadiah Gaon's Arabic Tafsir (= commentary), was very popular among all Oriental Jewish communities, including that of Yemen, and is here incorporated into the Aramaic of Targum Onkelos in Hebrew script -- HEBREW MANUSCRIPT - Isaac Aboab I (end of 14th century), Menorat ha-Ma'or (Candlestick of Light; ethical work on the religious edification of the Jews in the Middle Ages, with the commentary Nefesh Yehudah by Moses ben Simeon Frankfurt of Amsterdam, first published in 1701). Qabir al-Azab (Jewish quarter of Sana'a, Yemen), by an unidentified scribe, n.d. [19th century]. Black ink on paper, 320 x 220 mm., in a semi-cursive Yemenite hand, the scribe's name appearing on the final page in a typical autogram seal which could not be identified with certainty, generally good condition, modern morocco, spine gilt. Isaac Aboab's ethical treatise was extremely popular among the Jews of Yemen and survives in numerous manuscript copies, many of which incorporate the commentary Nefesh Yehudah also included in our copy -- HEBREW MANUSCRIPT - Perush...Rashi (Rashi's commentary on the Pentateuch and the Five Megillot; Song of Songs, Ruth and Ecclesiastes also with Targum).
