Pass.’, woodcut printer’s device on verso of last, leaves L3, M3, N3, and Q4 are cancels printed in slightly smaller type, old small monogram ink stamp to verso of title page and facing leaf (upper margin of facing leaf also with ink stamp word 'Duplicate'), occasional light scattered spotting, upper pastedown with oval bookplate label "Ex Musaeo Huthii", i.e. from the Huth Library, late 19th-century speckled calf, gilt decorated spine, upper joint lightly cracked, slim 4to (17.6 x 13.5 cm) (Quantity: 1) STC 12998; Pforzheimer, 459; Lowndes II 1018. The first edition of Sir John Hayward’s posthumous ‘Life and Raigne of King Edward VI,’ the earliest biography of the last Tudor king, reprinted in 1636, and again in White Kennett’s Complete History of England in 1706. The Huth Library was begun by Henry Huth (1815-1878) and continued by his son Alfred H. Huth. The Library was dispersed by Sotheby's in a number of sales between 1911 and 1920.
