Strahan & T. Cadell, 1773, 3 volumes, 4°, FIRST EDITION, second issue, 50 engraved plates and maps only (of 52), 40 folding or double-page (volume I lacking the "Directions for placing the Cuts and Charts," with block broken in several places, causing some damage to 3L1, and a clean but deep tear to chart of the Magellan Straights, title and preliminaries to volume III detached, library marks, including title perforations and stamps to plate versos, some offsetting), non-uniform binding, volumes I & III: contemporary calf with gilt crest on sides (worn, volume I rebacked in buckram), volume II: brown buckram. [ Cox I, p. 19; Holmes 5; Sabin 30934] Provenance : JCL; together with defective copies of Pierre Bergeron's Voyage Faits Principalement en Asie (La Haye, 1735, 4°), George Forster's A Voyage round the World (London, 1777, 2 volumes, 4°) and Alexander Russell's The Natural History of Aleppo (London, 1794, 2 volumes, 4°, second edition).
