(Harrison, William Henry Caleb Atwater. A History of the State of Ohio, Natural and Civil. Cincinnati: Stereotyped by Glezen & Shepard, [1838] In 4s (215 x 138 mm). Foxed, very occasional marginal dampstaining, leaf 30.1 torn with loss of half of its text (facsimile leaf loosely inserted), title-page torn at lower inner margin, a few other leaves with short marginal tears, front and rear fly-leaves excised. Contemporary speckled sheep, spine gilt in five compartments with red morocco label, brown-coated endpapers; extremities and joints rather worn. First edition; a fine association copy of one of the first histories of Ohio, inscribed by William Henry Harrison on the title-page: "To W. H. Garrard of Shelby County Ohio from W. H. Harrison of North Bend, March 14th 1839." Harrison was a subscriber to Atwater’s History, appearing in the subscription list appended to the text as "Gen. W. H. Harrison" of Cincinnati. Harrison's name also appears in the retrospective tables of Ohio's senators and congressmen.
