HARLEIAN LIBRARY -- A catalogue of the collection of Italian, Flemish and French Books of Prints of the Rt. Hon. Edward, Earl of Oxford and Mortimer, deceas'd. Which will be sold on the 17th of this instant February, 1745-6, and the nineteen following Evenings (Sundays excepted) . London: Christopher Cock 1746. 8 o (225 x 135 mm). Collation : A1 B-X 2. Unbound, stabbed as issued, edges uncut. Folding half-morocco case. THE RARE AUCTION CATALOGUE of a selection of unsold books from Thomas Osborne's trade catalogue of just a few years earlier (see previous lot). Because the bookseller had great difficulty disposing of the vast Harleian library formed by the first and second earls of Oxford, he had recourse to the sale rooms for collections of prints, illustrated books, some incunable editions of the classics printed on vellum, and liturgy. IN ORIGINAL CONDITION. Munby and Coral p. 53 (recording copies at BL, BM, and V&A).
