The paper was published at much the same time as Gauss' 'Disquisitiones generales...', and Hamilton's ideas have a good deal in common with those of Gauss" (James, Remarkable Mathematicians, p. 1 11). - Vol. 17 of the Transactions also includes Humphrey Lloyd's famous paper on conical refraction, experimentally verifying a theoretical prediction made by Hamilton. - Some marginal fraying, slight spotting and some dustsoiling here and there.
