Secretary Hamilton forwards an official document to Lee (brother of Light-Horse Harry Lee) in Alexandria, Virginia: "Enclosed [not present] you will receive part of the margin of a certificate of registry, No. 3 March 4th 1791 issued at your office, and which has been delivered up as noted thereon..." Hamilton served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington from 1789 to 1795, and was "...the key member of Washington's cabinet, since finances were the most critical problem facing the new nation..." (Boatner, p. 470).
