HALLÉE, Étienne, Seigneur De La Motte-Saint-Jean (1664-1741) -- Livres et estampes du cabinet de feu M. Hallée, chevalier de l'Ordre de S. Michel, et secrétaire du Roy. Paris: Piget Libraire, 26 February 1742. Two volumes in one, 8 o (193 x 125 mm). Contemporary sprinkled calf, spine gilt. Provenance : A.L. McLaughlin (bookplate). PRICED in a contemporary hand. Catalogue of the posthumous sale of Hallée's collection which had first been listed in 1730 in his privately printed catalogue. The collections "In usum Delphini", "Autores cum notis variorum," and the Elzevirs were listed under three lot numbers 1,287-89, but their component volumes were sold singly. Bléchet, p. 109; North 63; Pollard & Ehrman 278a. [ Bound with: ] LE PILEUR D'APLIGNI -- Catalogue des livres de Monsieur et Madame d'Apligni, &c. Paris: Jacques Barois, Fils, 22 February, 1742. (Signature K in duplicate; a few margins slightly cropped.) PRICED in a contemporary hand. This is a very unusual catalogue in that the collection is expressly attributed to the joint ownership of husband and wife, probably the first occurrence; Bléchet identifies Le Pileur d'Apligni as either Jean-François- captain in the Picardy Regiment or Henri-August, "conseiller puis maître des requêtes." About 150 lot numbers are distinguished by an asterisk, probably indicating other properties, the "&c." following "Apligni" on the title.
