HALL, Tom, artist. 3 hand-painted cut-out paper figures depicting characters from "The Mad Hatter's Tea Party" as Christmas carollers, created by the illustrator and paper doll artist Tom Hall. New York, circa late 1940s. Approximately 6 in. and smaller, each with metal-weighted bases, a few details creased or becoming weak, but in incredibly good condition considering the fragile nature of the materials. The characters comprise The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, and The Dormouse, each holding carolling cards marked "Nol," and decorated with cut-out pieces of holly. [ With :] Another Tom Hall creation depicting Alice's White Kitten from Through the Looking Glass (piece missing); and a fold-out Christmas card which opens to reaveal The White Rabbit holding a typed letter signed from the artist presenting the above tea party group to the Montgomerys (dated in pencil by the recipient? "Christmas 1950"). Provenance : Dr. Lall G. Montgomery, senior pathologist in the Ball Memorial Hospital, Munci, Indiana, and "Alice" collector (typed letter from Hall [above], newsclippings and an issue of The Doll Collector [January 1965] featuring his collection, and a 4 page carbon copy of his typed account of Hall).
