Originally created for NASA by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation in 1964, the LEM Familiarization Manual provides an overview of all the subsystems and major components of the Apollo Lunar Excursion Module (or “LEM” for short). Topics include the Apollo mission, the Apollo space vehicle and systems, the then called Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), training equipment, test programs, the lunar landing mission, and a section on Apollo Support Manuals to assist both astronauts and other personnel.
Complete with several detailed diagrams of the LEM and its components, this document details the ambitious engineering of the Apollo program and hails from the collection of one of its Cognizant Engineers, Mr. Alvin Gimson.
