Lot of 4. S.G. Lane: Boston, Massachusetts, n.d. ca 1865. Lithograph by Louis Prang & Co., 13.75 x 9 in. (sight), framed to 22 x 16 in., presenting a the two-story wood frame house of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, as viewed from the busy street in front. Foot, horse, and carriage traffic populate the foreground, and Lincoln and one of his sons are visible standing in the yard behind a fence. After a photograph taken of the home during the summer of 1860 by John Adams Whipple [O-38]. Uncredited CDV showing the exterior of the Lincoln home in Springfield. The awning over the front door was added in 1905 as visitation increased, while the sickly elm tree in front was finally destroyed by a storm in August 1906, dating this image to some point in between. Holland's Life of Abraham Lincoln, 1866. Shows two men standing outside of Lincoln's boyhood log cabin, titled below, "The Early Home / in Illinois." Provenance:The Mr. & Mrs. Jack L. Smith Collection of Lincolniana Condition: Toning and light surface soil. Prang print with more pronounced areas of spotting/staining. Not examined outside frames.
