Title: Group photograph for the Fifth Annual Conference of the Society of American Indians, Tsawrence [sic], Sept. 28 - Oct. 3, 1915, Kansas Author: Society of American Indians Place: Kansas Publisher: "Photo by Squires" Date: 1915 Description: 6¾x18¼" albumen photograph, showing approximately a group of 80 men, women and children the steps in front of a stone-brick building, captioned and dated in the negative along the bottom margin. The Society of American Indians, a Pan-Indian reform group, was founded in 1911, only four years before this photograph was taken. This was precursor organization to the Pan-Indian National Council of American Indians. One of its more noteworthy and founding members, Henry Roe Cloud (1884-1950), Nebraska Winnebago educator, political leader, and Indian Service employee, participated in most of these annual conferences until 1920. Likely he is pictured somewhere in this group photo. Lot Amendments Condition: Light edge wear and rubbing, else near fine. Item number: 157776
