Lot of 4 quilts plus additional loose signed squares. 1. 70 x 86 in., Oriental print on front, mint green backing. Numerous blocks dated 1972. Most of these were signed by friends and neighbors of Marie Fox. One was signed by Lawrence Welk. 2. 80 x 100 in. Lavender front with beige back. Diamond in circle in square pattern. Signed blocks include: Richard Gordon (Gemini 11, Apollo 12); Jean Pierce (wife of James Pierce, Tarzan #4); Alan Shepard (Freedom 7, Apollo 14); Bob Hope; Charles Duke (Apollo 16); Michael Collins (Gemini 10, Apollo 11); James Pierce (Tarzan); Thomas Stafford (Gemini 6, Apollo 10 Gemini 9A); Richard Burton; Harry Truman; Walter Brennan; James McDivitt (Gemini 4, Apollo 9); W(illiam) A. Anders (Apollo 8); Elizabeth Taylor; Tom Eagleton (McGovern's VP choice); Bess Truman; Edward Kennedy; Walt Cunningham (Apollo 7); Ken Mattingly (Apollo 16); Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9); Walter Cronkite; Al Worden (Apollo 15). 3. 76.5 x 97 in. Red with beige backing. Signed blocks include: Alice Roosevelt Longworth (TR's daughter); Rose Kennedy; Paul Weitz (Skylab); Joan Burroughs Pierce (daughter of Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of Tarzan and wife of James Pierce, Tarzan #4); Mamie Doud Eisenhower; Shirley Temple Black; James Pierce (Tarzan #4); Svetlana Alliluyeva Peters; Helen Hays; George Wallace; piece of cloth that went to Buckingham palace; Frank Borman (Gemini 7). 4. 75 x 96.5 in. Olive drab and Christmas greens, backing yellow and blue print. Twisted Star pattern. Signed blocks include: Alive Roosevelt Longworth; Fred Haise (Apollo 13); Paul Weitz (Skylab); Ed Mitchell (Apollo 14); George Wallace; memorial to three lost astronauts Chaffee, White, Grissom); Margaret Mead (anthropologist); Edward Kennedy; Bob Hope; James McDivitt (Gemini 4, Apollo 9); Walter Cronkite; Gene Cernan (Apollo 10, 17); (notes on Nov. 1972 election); Tom Eagleton (McGovern's VP choice); Frank Borman (Gemini 7). "Extra" blocks: Tom Brokaw (with cover); Norman Schwarzkoff, with signed color photo and letter from Schwarzkoff's aide; Dick Cheney, with cover letter signed by Cheney; Elizabeth and Bob Dole; Brig. Genl. Richard Neil (CENTCOM Desert Storm); signed photo of John Holliman (CNN); Colin Powell; Dean Reynolds (ABC News), with cover; George Bush color photo with printed signature, with cover letter from Bush's Special Assistant; signed photos of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter (his printed). Lot also includes newspaper articles on the quilter, Marie Fox of Milford/Mulberry, Ohio. They describe her inspirations for the quilts and many of the awards her quilts won over the years. Most of these are from the 1970's, with a few from the 1980's. A few of the local signatures have been embroidered. In one of the articles Mrs. Fox notes that some of the signatures she was receiving were too small to embroider, so they had to be left as is. The down-side is that none of the quilts can be washed or the autographs will disappear.
