GRISWOLD, F. GRAY A Salmon River. New York: Dutton's, 1928. Limited edition, one of 250 copies, presentation copy inscribed by the author to Childs Frick. Contemporary full red morocco gilt, top edge gilt, gilt-ruled turn-ins. 8 x 5 5/8 inches; xii, 239 pp.; color frontispiece, limitation page, autugraph presentation letter signed by Griswold and related newsclipping laid in. Hinges weak, extremities rubbed, endpapers toned, bookplate of Hoagy B. Carmichael to front pastedown. "Very scarce" (Bruns) presentation copy, inscribed by the author to Childs Frick (paleontologist and trustee of the American Museum of Natural History, and son of Henry Clay Frick) on the first blank. With a manuscript letter to Frick laid in: "Dear Frick, / I put this book / together for Dutton. There is / not much new in it, but as it / is about 'our river' I had a / copy bound for you. / Yours Sincerely, / F. Gray Griswold." Attached is a carbon copy of Frick's response, and a related newsclipping with a photo of Griswold's record tuna catch. This book was compiled from two previous publications and printed in an edition of 250 for distribution to the author's friends.
