Female nude. 1926. Vintage sepia-toned gelatin silver print. 22,7 x 11,7 cm. Mounted along upper edge to card (minimal traces of use). The Russian photographer and cinematographer Alexander Danilovich Grinberg was one of the greatest Russian pictorialist photographers who fell out of favor because his nude studies were considered stylistically subversive during the Stalin period. In 1936 he was arrested and sentenced to five years in a NKVD prison camp based on his "distribution of pornography". – A rich atmospheric print in excellent condition.
