GRIMM, Wilhelm (1786-1859). Autograph letter signed ('Wilh. Grimm') to Albert Schulz, Göttingen, 18 March 1836, 2 pages, 4to , integral address leaf, inscribed on blank by recipient (minor spotting and repair to fold). A response to a translation of Wolfram von Eschenbach's 13th-century Parzival sent to him by Schulz, commenting on the difficulties of literal translation of a text of this period ('Sie haben sehr richtig eingesehen, daß eine eigentliche Übersetzung zu den unausführbaren Dingen gehört'), and complimenting him on his treatment, expressing the sense at once of recognition and of difference it gives him: 'Wenn der Stiefbruder eines Freundes zum erstenmal vor mich träte, würde ich einen ähnlichen Eindruck empfangen: Gesichtszüge, Gestalt, Haltung gleichen sich und ich glaube in dem einen Augenblick den alten Bekannten, in dem andern einen ganz fremden Menschen zu sehen'.
