Contemporary half-calf, flat spine with black floral tools in compartments (spine head and tail chipped, hinges starting, extremities rubbed, endpapers lightly soiled). Provenance : contemporary inscription. First volume of this journal, published only between 1823 and 1825. The wide scope of the term 'Fine Arts' at the time meant that the journal was dedicated to literature as well as to those art forms more usually included in that genre. The Imperial Academy ordered five sets of the journal for its library and departments and Grigorovich presented them with an additional eight sets to be given to promising students.
