GRIEG, Edvard (1843-1907). Autograph letter signed to 'Dear Sir', Bergen, 29 June 1892 and including an AUTOGRAPH MUSICAL QUOTATION SIGNED, four bars, signed and inscribed, from the violin sonata no.2 in G (op.13), black ink, 2 pages on a bifolium, 8vo (181 x 114mm.), (repairs to the folds not affecting text or music). The pithy letter accompanying the musical quotation clearly shows Grieg's annoyance at being asked what he thinks are foolish questions, 'I should think it quite impossible to answer your questions', which seem to have been 1) what is his method of composition, 2) how can composition be learned and 3) who is his favourite composer. To the last question he replies 'all good composers are my favourites!'
