Aldine's woodcut device on title and last page. 2 leaves printed in red and black. (Some marginal dampstaining and light worming to text.) 16th-century Saxonian blind-stamped pigskin over paste-boards, upper cover lettered GCD and dated 1571 central plate stamp with the coat-of-arms of Danmark (Haebler III) and lower cover with central plate stamp with the coat-of-arms of Saxony (Haebler V), both signed "WD" Wenzel Dörffler (upper joint cracked, some darkening). Provenance : Lucius Wilmerding (bookplate); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, n.d. FIRST EDITION. Wenzel Dörffler was active in Wittenberg and Dresden. Adams G-1157; Ahmanson-Murphy II:124; Renouard p.75:1; Haebler p.96-99.
