Greek philosophy - Egypt] - HERMES TRISMEGISTUS - Divinus Pymander (…) cum commentariis R.P.F. Hannibalis Roseli Calabri O.F.M. (…). Tomus primus (- sextus). Cologne, P. Cholinus, 1630, folio, 19th-c. blindstamped polished calf (rubbed), spine on 6 raised bands with gilt title (head def., joints starting to split), [4]-43 (= 39), [5]-342-[2], [4]-184, [4]-204, [4]-267-[1], [4]-206-[38] pp. (usual toning and spotting, worming in bottom and fore-edge margin occasionally touching text, fore-edge margin of title strengthened, marginal dampstaining at beginning and end). In all a good copy.
Voluminous extensively annotated Greek ed. with Latin translations and commentaries by the Italian Franciscan A. Rosseli (d. 1524) and the French humanist nobleman François de Foix, comte de Candale (1502-1594). “Pymander” is a major text of the Corpus Hermeticum, joining Egyptian and Greek sacred philosophy.
